Lauren Marie (of Makeup By Lauren Marie) kindly tagged me to do the Skincare Tag. I'm glad of the opportunity as recently I've been asked about my skincare 'routine' more and more. To call it a routine would be a stretch to be honest...as you're about to find out!
- Describe your skincare routine in 5 words.
minimalist, hydrating, simple, irregular, basic !
- What's your skin type?
My skin is normal-dehydrated, I have normal skin but my skin tends to be quite tight from dehydration around certain areas. In the winter months I do get some dry patches especially around my nose and I get a few spots now and then. Overall my skin isn't particularly sensitive so I'm not too strict about what I try - to date my skin has never reacted badly to a particular product (that I know of!). Every now and then I'll use a hydrating face mask (maybe once a week) and I use my Clarisonic almost every night to deep clean my skin since I got it last Christmas.
- What's your favourite skincare product?
Well, as I've mentioned, my skin isn't particularly fussy. But I've spoken of this before in my '7 Products to Make Life Easier' post and it probably is Liz Earle's Hot Cloth Cleanser. It's not particularly groundbreaking, but I just like it for it's all-in-one simplicity! Removes all of my makeup, soothes my skin, and has a nice relaxing scent to it. I want nothing more!
- Top Blemish Zapper?
Being totally honest, I'll dot any blemish that creeps up with toothpaste before I go to bed. I know it's probably not the best thing for my skin, but it does dry it out and reduce the redness by morning. Since my teen acne cleared up I only really get the odd blemish so I've haven't tried many magical fancy potions. But for days that toothpaste hasn't quite done the trick, I'll fake it with concealer (see step-by-step here)!
- Face Wipes - Yay Or Nay?
Definitely nay! I was a big fan back in the day, and even though my skin routine now is still quite basic, one big change I've made in the past 2 years has been to stop using face wipes completely. I don't buy them so I can't use them no matter how tired I am! I'm forced to clean my face properly and as much of a pain as it sometimes is - Liz Earle makes it more bearable and I'm always glad I did it!
- Toner - Yay or Nay?
I don't know how much truth there is to it, but when I did a weekend makeup course (8 years ago) I was told that most cleansers now also have toner and so using a separate one isn't completely necessary?! Feel free to correct me on that one. Although the odd time, if I want to feel extra squeaky clean, I'll use a bit of Lancome's toner (of which I have a gazillion samples) with a cotton pad.
- High End Skincare or High End Makeup?
This is a tricky one. All-in-all I would rather invest in high end skincare as there is so much amazing quality from affordable makeup brands. I have said time and time again that I really am all about the makeup. Unlike most bloggers, I'm a bit of a one-trick pony in that I am fairly clueless about skincare and fashion (I have zero personal style). Sure, I've tried to get more into skincare and I am a bit wiser than I once was. Just last year I visited my local spa to invest in some good quality skin products for three main reasons (1) it was one of those things I'd been 'meaning to do' for ages! (2) it was payday, and (3) my skin literally looked like a zombie's on this particular day. I ended up spending a good €150 on some items from Image Skincare's Vital C range (including a tub of moisturiser costing €70 which I subsequently knocked lid off and face down onto my bedroom floor...). Skincare is something which in theory I want to, and know I should, invest in. But in reality I spend 90% of my 'disposable' income on makeup...Hitting my mid-20s soon I should really be getting my act together! It's an ongoing battle, but I'll keep you posted.
- What's the most unusual skincare product you have tried?
Probably a porridge and honey face mask which to be honest isn't that unusual, but it does look a little like someone got sick on your face! Yet, I can't argue with it - it left my skin feeling smooth as a baby's bottom! Recommended to me by the beautiful Yaz.

You're in a French pharmacy and can only pick one item - what is it?
Despite being a skincare novice I do happen to own and use two 'cult' French pharmacy skincare items - Bioderma Crealine H2o Ultra-mild Non-rinse Cleanser and Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre. I can't say either of them have rocked my world one way or another, but perhaps I haven't tried enough skincare bits to notice! However, I'm nearly out of the Bioderma Cleanser and it is very gentle for removing my eye makeup so I'd probably go with that!
Tell us your top skincare tip?
You may have gauged by now that really I'm just wingin' it when it comes to skincare, although I am trying to figure it all out with the help of fellow blogger extraordinaires! But, ultimately my personal top skincare tip has to be - lots of water, lots of sleep, and lots of greens! I'm not always great on all three, but when I am I truly notice the difference in my skin!
So that's it....Now you know my dirty little secret!
I tag the people below and anyone else who'd like to do it!
