Some New Beauty Bits....

L-R: Revlon Shadow Stick (Torch), Maybelline The Falsies Mascara, Maybelline Colour Tattoo (Pink Gold), NARS Sheer Glow (Deauville), Kate for Rimmel Matte Lipstick (113), Hydraluron Moisture Booster
In case you're wondering, I haven't won the lotto or stumbled upon a pot of gold. I am still as broke as I've been whinging about for months. These items were picked up one-by-one over a period of time. Well in that case, can I afford it? Let me ask you this...Can one ever really afford makeup? Not really, no. But, c'est la vie of a makeup addict!

Last week's post was a very, emm, concise....well, it was a 20 minute video all about my stand out favourite products of 2012. However, it's been aaagges since I've done any kind of 'stuff I've bought' post and the products I'm going to talk about here are relatively new to me. Meaning, they are not review ready yet, but I want to share with you, my fellow obsessives, what I'm currently using! Especially those that are of the boat-floating variety! So let's get into it then!

Revlon Colorstay Smoky Shadow Stick

Swatch Revlon Colorstay Smoky Shadow Stick in Torch
This newish product from Revlon comes in the form of dual-ended eyeshadow sticks. Each have a dark colour on one end, and a lighter colour on the other. Honestly, I wasn't too intrigued by these until I spotted Amarixe raving about this particular one; which is matte brown and  shimmery peach pink. In theory, a lovely idea for creating a smokey eye.

Unfortunately for me, we didn't get off to a good start as the peach end was broken the first time I removed the lid. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. Apart from our rocky beginnings, it is a very nice product; just not amazing. The colours are lovely. It's quite smooth, long-lasting and works well alone or as a base. In terms if performance it gets 5/5, but for some reason I feel my collection wouldn't miss it. Go figure. Underwhelmed.

Maybelline Color 24HR Tattoo - Pink Gold
Swatch: Maybelline Color 24HR Tattoo - Pink Gold
My third colour tattoo, which you may know from last week's (or previous) posts, have become staples in my collection! As you can see it is a very pretty and brightening colour. A lovely shimmery cool pink base Quite lovely indeed, although admittedly I would prefer it as the warmer peachy-pink it appears to be in the container!

Maybelline 'The Falsies' Mascara
Maybelline The Falsies Mascara Applied
I've mentioned before, there aren't many mascaras that I like from the very first use. For my particular lash needs I find that formulas are usually a bit too wet initially and I need to bear with them the first week or two until they have dried to my liking. Not the case for everyone, but definitely the case for me.

Nevertheless, and to my surprise, I've thoroughly enjoyed this mascara from day one. I think it adds volume, length, and as it claims, also gives a nice flare to the lashes. I'm almost out,  but I am definitely planning to repurchase asap! See my previous post for tips on choosing a mascara

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation - Deauville
I have wanted to try this foundation for at least two years. I have only been using it for two days, so I know it's early...but 'oh, my'. You can't argue with young love, and this, ladies and gents - is it.

I am delighted with the colour match (Deauville), as I daringly ordered online after an hour of serious google swatching! I have been applying it with my beloved Real Techniques' Buffing Brush and I love the finish. However, Monsieur Nars recommends warming up and applying with your hands, and so I will be trying a plethora of application methods! Lengthy review to follow.

Kate for Rimmel Matte Lipstick (113)
A recent FOTD featuring Kate for Rimmel Matte Lipstick 113
Fun fact - after completing this makeup look I ended up staying in my PJs all day long doing college work until the wee hours of the morning! Hurray for further education...
I'm still not sure how I feel about this peachy beige nude lipstick from the much adored Kate for RImmel Matte Lipstick collection. I've been fighting this purchase for a while as I was somewhat torn. Every time I didn't get it was lusting after it, yet every time I saw it in person I wasn't sure it would suit me. I'm still unsure as it is bordering on concealer-lips nude, a look I'm not a major fan of. Perhaps as I get a bit more colour in the summer months I might enjoy it more.

In the meantime, I'm combining it with my MAC lipliner in Subculture and a peach Sexy Mother Pucker gloss from Soap and Glory to add some much needed dimension to my lips (see above).

Hydraluron Moisture Booster
Hydraluron Moisture Booster
Serious splurge here (30 odd quid), but my skin has been so dehydrated I had to take action. I'm certainly no expert on skincare, but I must admit my skin is supper supple the mornings after using this. It is designed to use before applying your moisturiser and I am absolutely loving it!

As an aside, I am also taking more care of my skin generally and generously received  the Clarisonic Plus from my other half at Christmas. Early days, but I will post a review when it gives me the skin of an angel!

So that's it! A bit naughty, I know, but needs must.
What new bits have you being loving lately?

  1. Lots of people raving about Hydralauron, I wonder is it suitable for oily skin

    1. I can't see why not, seeing as it's more to do with moisture than oil. But I'm no skincare expert...perhaps google will have the answers?! :)

    1. I'm still not so sure with it on it's own...with the liner and gloss it gives it a bit more life, but I'll do a separate post with proper daytime swatches etc...!:) Please do a video when you double your lipstick collection! Would love to see it! :)

    1. Hmmm...it's been yonks since I picked up a MAC foundation and I've varied from NC15 to like NC40 when I'm super tan! The last one I got was Matchmaster in 2.0 and that's not really much help to you! But Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 52 is a pretty good match for me currently if that helps! When I do my review I'm going to swatch it by some other foundations to help people for online matching! I found it really useful when looking for mine! :)

  12. I love Color Tattoos, the Pink Gold is now on my To Buy list! Where did you buy the Hydraluron Orla? I've been using LRP Hydraphase Intense serum (which has hydraluronic acid in it) for the past 6 weeks and I have yet to see an improvement in my skin, in fact my skin is much drier and now flaky! Any idea if this is because there’s alcohol in it? Do you know if there’s alcohol in Hydraluron? Thanks!

    1. Hey Eimear! I bought it in Boots in Galway! That's disappointing about the LRP Hydraphase serum, I've heard such good things about it! I'm not sure whether the dryness and flaking would be due to the alcohol content, but honestly I know very very little about skincare! I'd recommend checking out some other reviews on it to see if anyone who has had a similar problem. Someone like Ruth from 'A Model Recommends' does fantastic skincare reviews, and there are quite a few who really know their stuff with that! There's a list of ingredients on the Boots website (http://bit.ly/RHShSN)which shows it does have some alcohol ingredients (Propanediol & Phenoxyethanol), but again I'm not sure what that might mean for your skin! Sorry I couldn't be more help, but let me know if you discover the cause/solution! x

    2. Thanks a mill Orla. Had a quick look at reviews and everyone seems to be getting on great with it but I'll do a wee bit more investigating tomorrow!

    1. The Revlon Stick works really well, just not one of those things I'm going to rave about or tell people they HAVE to buy, unlike the Maybelline Color Tattoos or Real Techniques brushes! Just not one of those things for me! :)
